We love Vienna and so does Horst! Being a Lipizzaner horse from the famous Spanish Riding School he knows Vienna by heart. Horst likes to enjoy the city with his friends. But why is there a cup of coffee on his head?

Check out our postcard portfolio below and find out more about Horst’s story.

Portfolio – or “Horst’s favourite spots and activities”: Horst is very active and social. He loves to spend time with his friends – Lipizzaner or not. His activities include strolling around Naschmarkt, riding the Viennese Giant Ferris Wheel, or having a ride with the bumper cars at Prater. When Horst and his friends get tired, they enjoy getting around in one of the old trams, or having way too much coffee. The weekly sausage at the Würstelstand with his friend Fiaker Ferdl is of course a must!

Now you probably already have some insights on Horst’s everyday life. But love is in the details and what about the coffee cup?

Little Horst was born in Styria

Yes, he was! Born and raised at stud Piber in Styria. Like most of the Lipizzaner horses he spent his early childhood enjoying the green scenery and fresh air. To become a famous stallion at The Spanish Riding School he had to move to Vienna.

Severe case of stage-fright

Time passed and he was finally ready for the big stage. A star stallion needs to be in the spotlight. But somehow Horst couldn’t overcome his stage-fright. He managed to perform at some point. But never really got over his fear. Poor Horst.

Golden Times

At the well-known Spanish Riding School in the Hofburg he got the best education a horse can get. Exquisite food and care included. Horst loved the accommodation and learning “the tricks”.

Ober Horst is born

What was he supposed to do now? Because of his upbringing Horst knows fine food and drinks and is very good in standing on two feet. That makes him the perfect waiter! And that’s exactly what he does since he left the Hofburg. Serving coffee on two feet as “Ober Horst”. Showing off his tricks by balancing a cup of coffee on his head! For old times’ sake.
